PUZZLE RULES with illustrations

To solve the puzzle you must fill in empty coconuts on a grid so that each row, column, 3x3 box and diagonal lines contain all the digits. 1 through 9 (no repeats)

KOKONOTSU instructions

1. Eliminating values

The value at (3,7) is not known.

It cannot be 2 or 8, since those occur in the same row

It cannot be 3 or 9, since those occur in the same column.

It cannot be 4, 5, 6, or 8 since those also occur on the diagonal.

It cannot be 1, 6, or 8 since those occur in the same box.

This means it must be 7

2. Eliminating places

Example 1:

There must be a 1 in this box, but it is not known where.

Eliminate places that occur in the same row or column as any other 1.

This leaves only one spot

Example 2:

There must be a 8 in this row, but it is not known where.

Eliminate places that occur in the same column, box, or diagonal as any other 8.

This leaves only one spot.

3. Restrictions

There must be a 6 in this box, but it is not known where.

The 6 in this column must occur in that box, so the 6 in the box is restricted to that column.

There must be a 6 in this row.

Further eliminate the places that occur in the same row or column as any other 6.

This leaves only one spot.
